Today I spent the day on the water in my canoe. I headed into a spectacular sunrise as I made my way east into West Lake. I found several places where I want to return and photograph the fallen trees along the northern bank with my 4x5 camera. Entering the Red Mangrove tunnel to Long Lake is quite a change of scenery. These mangrove forests are visually intriguing but I have yet to figure out how to effectively capture them on film. After exploring Long Lake and others I returned to West Lake to return to my car. By midday a stiff breeze had kicked up at my back. I fashioned a make-shift sail out of my shirt and tripod, stuck both paddles into the air to catch the wind and took a nap. I woke up when I hit a tree on the other side of the lake just a short way from the boat ramp. It was a great way to end a wonderful morning.
